Washtenaw County Sheriff's Deputies Arrest Suspects Linked to Home Burglaries in Dexter

Suspects led deputies on a chase in Webster Township before crashing their car in Whitmore Lake.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office arrested two male suspects in connection to a string of home invasions in the Dexter area. According to Sgt. Keith Flores, on Jan. 24, homeowners in the 9000 block of Hamburg Road in Webster Township called 911 upon returning to their residence and discovering an unknown vehicle idling in the driveway. Flores said upon arrival, deputies observed the vehicle leaving the driveway. After a short pursuit, the suspects crashed their vehicle at 23/8 mile in Whitmore Lake. Officers pursued two men on foot over US-23 before making the arrest. Flores said the men are both in their early 20s from Ypsilanti. MDOT Courtesy Patrols Begin Feb. 1 in Washtenaw County

Patrols will help stranded motorists on US-23, M-14, and I-94 in Washtenaw County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation's Courtesy Patrol service will expand into Washtenaw County beginning Feb. 1. The patrols mainly operate on local freeways throughout Metro Detroit and assist motorists stranded on the side of the road. Services include providing fuel, oil, and other system fluids for disabled vehicles; clearing stranded vehicles and debris from driving lanes; changing or inflating tires; making minor mechanical repairs; securing the area around a vehicle; removing disabled vehicles; providing cell phone assistance; and transporting stranded motorists. MDOT has established two patrol zones on US-23 between Brighton and Ann Arbor, and Washtenaw County’s urban center, including US-23, M-14 and I-94. Courtesy patrols …

Thieves Steal Tire from Vehicle Lot at Lafontaine Chevrolet Dealership

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of a tire from a vehicle at Lafontaine Chevrolet in the village of Dexter. According to police reports, the theft occurred between Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 during the evening, after the dealership closed. Sgt. Keith Flores said there are currently no suspects. Larceny from a vehicle On Jan. 12, deputies responded to the 400 block of Cambridge Club in the village of Dexter for a theft complaint. According to police records, sometime after 3 a.m., a suspect or suspects entered the victim's unlocked vehicle and stole the victim's wallet and GPS. Emotional Woman Crashes Vehicle, Arrested for Drunken Driving in Dexter Township

The following information was supplied by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A one-vehicle crash in Dexter Township on Jan. 12 resulted in an arrest for drunken driving. According to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the area of Island Lake and Stofer roads around 5:30 a.m. in response to a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, a deputy discovered one lone female occupant in the driver seat of the vehicle crying with a open bottle of beer and and Vodka. According to police, the driver denied drinking anything, however the deputy could smell the odor of alcohol and observed the driver had glassy eyes. Deputies transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where an alcohol blood test was conducted. Sgt. Keith Flores said the case will be sent to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office once …

Driver Injured in Accident Near Dan Hoey Road in Dexter

Minor injuries were reported at an accident near Dan Hoey and Dexter-Ann Arbor roads on Friday.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office and Dexter Area Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Dexter-Ann Arbor Road and Dan Hoey Road in the village of Dexter at 1:10 p.m. Friday. According to Sgt. Keith Flores, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Dexter-Ann Arbor Road attempted to stop at the light near Dan Hoey Road, but traveled through the crosswalk and struck another vehicle traveling westbound from Dan Hoey onto Dexter-Ann Arbor Road. Flores said one of the drivers was transported to the University of Michigan hospital with non-life threatening injuries after complaining of chest pains. The accident is under investigation.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Honors Neighborhood Watch Program Volunteers

A dinner for neighborhood watch program coordinators is scheduled for January.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is hosting an upcoming Neighborhood Watch coordinator’s dinner at the end of January. Neighborhood Watch coordinators who reside in a township or village covered by the sheriff, can contact Dep. Hansen at Hansenn@ewashtenaw.org for more information. "It is only through volunteer-power that the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is able to provide many programs and services vital to the citizens of Washtenaw County as well as jail inmates and their families," the department said in a press release. Past events have recognized Neighborhood Watcch oordinators, reserve deputies, Christian volunteers, literacy support groups, substance abuse resistance coaches, and the Sheriff's Mounted Unit.

Deputies Investigate Home Burglary in Dexter Township

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary of a residence in the 9000 block of Algonquin Road in Dexter Township. According to police reports, deputies were dispatched to the home on Jan. 2. Sgt. Keith Flores said deputies discovered that sometime during the last six weeks, an unknown suspect or suspects forcibly broke into the residence and stole several items. No evidence was left at the scene, Flores said. Careless use of a firearm On Dec. 31, a Dexter Township resident called 911 to report gunshots near his property. According to police reports, deputies responded to the area and were unable to locate the source of the gunshots. Police: Woman Attempts to Cash Fraudulent Check in Dexter

A woman attempting to cash fraudulent checks in Washtenaw and Livingston counties was arrested in Dexter on Jan. 4. According to police records, the woman entered a business in the village of Dexter near the 7000 block of Dexter-Ann Arbor Road and attempted to cash a fraudulent check for $1,700. Deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the location and determined that the woman committed the same crime in Livingston County the week prior. The woman was arrested, and the case has been sent to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office. Home Invasion On Jan. 3, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 7000 block of Dexter-Ann Arbor Road in response to a home burglary complaint. …

Thieves Target Two Dexter Area Gas Stations

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help to catch an unknown suspect or suspects that burglarized two Dexter area gas stations between Jan. 3-4. According to a press release, deputies were dispatched to the Mobil gas station at 7717 Dexter-Ann Arbor Road around 3:37 a.m. on Jan. 3. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that someone had smashed out a rear glass door and gained entry into the building. Several items were knocked over but it is unclear if any items were removed, police said. This investigation is ongoing. Homeowner Scares Off Car Vandal in Dexter

On Dec. 19, at approximately midnight, an unknown individual threw a rock through the passenger's side window of a vehicle parked in the 8000 block of Oak Ridge Court in Webster Township, according to a police report. According to police, no items were removed from the vehicle. Sgt. Keith Flores said deputies believe that the suspect was spooked, due to lights going on in the house in front of which the car was parked, and fled the scene prior to stealing anything from the vehicle.
