The Zingerman's Roadhouse owner plans to restore a 27-acre farm in Dexter Township and add a dairy parlor to manufacture fresh farm goat cheese.
Zingerman's Roadhouse Chef Alex Young is expanding the scope of his culinary offerings in the Ann Arbor area with the purchase of Hoey Farm on Island Lake Road in Dexter Township this week. The 27-acre property, located at 8540 Island Lake Road and 8474 Island Lake Road, will be used as part of an ambitious undertaking for Young's Cornman Farms, an 18-acre farm that grows more than 130 varieties of vegetables, and is home to a selection of livestock raised for meat at the Roadhouse restaurant. The property includes a 1834 Greek Revival style house and barn, which Young said will be restored to their original design. Zingerman's Roadhouse Chef Alex Young partners with fourth grade students to teach youths how to cook nutritious meals.
Hundreds of screaming children filled the cafeteria at Wylie Elementary School in Dexter to cheer on their fellow classmates Friday during an "Iron Chef: Wylie" challenge. Modeling the event after The Food Network's popular television show, Iron Chef America, the cafeteria at Wylie was transformed into a veritable "kitchen stadium." The TV show pits two chefs against each other in a culinary competition requiring the chefs to complete a four-course meal within one hour while integrating a secret ingredient predetermined by the show's host in each dish.
