Alana West was born in one M state, Missouri and raised in a second M state, Minnesota. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. She moved to a third M state, Michigan, when she was 24.

She has been a reporter and lifestyle editor for the Mesabi Daily News in Virginia, Minn., and a U.S. Peace Corps English teacher in Botswana, Africa, where she traveled to see the Zimbabwe ruins, the Kalahari Desert, the Okavango Delta, and Victoria Falls.

She is currently a freelance writer, an organist for Sharon United Methodist Church in Manchester, and a substitute teacher for many schools in Washtenaw, Lenawee, and Jackson Counties. She enjoys writing, playing the piano, cooking and caring for her family and her miniature Schnauzer puppy named Luke.
