Twelve candidates are running for nine positions on the Dexter Village Charter Commission in Tuesday’s election. The election is the first step in the proposed process of becoming a city, according to the fall issue of the village newsletter.

The candidates are Philip Arbour, D. Jack Donaldson, Barbara Gutowski, John P. Hansen, Roger Koback, Matthew Kowalski, Phillip Mekas, Victor Michaels, Mary-Een Miller, Michael Raatz, Sue Sherrill and James Smith.

The Charter Commission will be charged with drafting a proposed city charter to be presented to village residents in a future vote.

If it’s approved, the process of becoming a city is complete. If not, a second draft can be placed before voters. If the second proposal were turned down, Dexter would remain a village.

Candidates for the Charter Commission outlined their views in the newsletter story.
