Union Base Ball Club of Dexter Fundraising

Your Union Base Ball Club of Dexter is in the middle of our second season of playing Historic Base Ball around southeast Michigan.  We are striving to put on a family friendly activity that everyone can attend for free.  We play base ball (yes, two words the way we play) by the rules of the 1860's, when base ball was becoming an organized sport played by men.  We wear replicas of uniforms from that time period as well as using vocabulary accurate to the time.  The rules we play by are similar to modern baseball, but different enough that it makes for an entertaining match.  We are a community focused club made up of gentlemen from Dexter and the surrounding communities.  Our roster is made up of men with various skill levels and a wide range of ages.  We have men that never played organized baseball until joining our club and we have men who played competitive fast pitch softball for years.  We wanted to put together a club that represented the community and we are pleased with what we are doing every weekend.  We focus on sportsmanship and camaraderie while trying to put on an accurate display of historic base ball.

We want to build up our event and make it more of a destination in Washtenaw county because we know we are offering something fun and unlike what most people have seen.  Everyone that comes out to one of our matches always tells us about how fun it is and we want to raise awareness of what we are doing.  Last year the Dexter Area Historical Society and Museum helped us out and allowed us to play on the field in front of Gordon Hall.  This year St. Joesph Catholic Church on Mast Rd has stepped up and is letting us use their field for our matches.  These two organizations have helped a lot in the formation and growth of our club and now we are turning to the community to help us take it to the next level.  The club is funded by it's members (players) and supplemented by a couple loyal Dexter businesses.  In order to keep the club open to those that are interested in playing, our membership fees are low and mainly help cover the costs of the members uniform.  We want our matches to look complete and be good hosts for everyone that makes the trip to come play us.

We have two ways that anyone can help out and show their support for the club.  First, Myint Family Chiropractic has stepped up and is doing fundraising of their own.  They are offering a 'welcome package' of services to new members that donate $35 to the club.  There are special requirements for those interested in supporting us through Myint Family Chiropractic, so please contact them for info 734-424-9500.  We thank them for their support, they do this every month for different charities and non-profits, so be sure to check them out!
Secondly, we have started a donation page for the club.  You can support the club with donations through Paypal or with a credit card.  We offer special 'perks' for those donating to the club.  The donation page is set up through 'Indiegogo' and can be accessed here http://igg.me/at/unionbbc/x/3683765

Every dollar we make helps us improve our matches and put on a better event.  We hope to get a reputation not only as a great event for the community, but as a place that other clubs look forward to visiting.  We look forward to being part of the community and growing with everyone for many more years to come.  We thank everyone that comes out to our matches and supports us both in person and through donations.  We are playing a game that we love and we look forward to sharing it with everyone.
